Mattel Fashion Dolls - Items tagged as "1973"

Although Mattel is best known for its Barbie line, Mattel also produced many other fashion dolls over the years.

In the 1960s, more characters were added to the Barbie line. In the 1970s, there was the Sunshine Family, a series of wholesome characters that embodied the hippy vibe of the 70s, and smaller lines of dolls like Rock Flowers and Fashion Teeners.

In the early 1980s, Starr and her friends Kelly, Shaun, and Tracy were taller and much more poseable than Barbie. Their necks, shoulders, elbows, wrists, waists, hips, knees and ankles could all bend and twist into more realistic poses.  Dazzle dolls were small 4 1/2" fashion dolls with heads made from two different scaled-down Barbie molds.

Lady LovelyLocks dolls were introduced in 1986 and quickly became popular. The Lady LovelyLocks head mold was used again in 1992 for Mattel's Peppermint Rose line. The Peppermint Rose faces had more makeup than the Lady LovelyLocks dolls and were on taller bodies more similar in size to Barbie.
